Well, needless to say the second trimester has been a lot easier than the first! Goodbye to nausea and hello to changing body! Over the past several weeks it has been crazy to see my body changing, but I know I will cherish these moments forever. As of writing, I am almost into my 19th week of pregnancy. My cravings have diminished significantly, but I do still occasionally crave the broccoli and cheese soup from McAllister’s.
I have been taking my prenatal vitamins religiously, and I also added in magnesium to help me sleep per a recommendation from my doctor. I had asked about being able to take melatonin, and she said she would rather me take magnesium just to be safe. I have had quite a bit of trouble sleeping over the past couple weeks as my body changes and grows. And on top of that, it seems like my bladder is constantly full so I am up every hour. Nathaniel got me a pregnancy pillow for my birthday, which has been a huge lifesaver in getting to sleep. I would highly recommend one if you are an expecting mama. You can distort it into different shapes so I even use it when we are relaxing on the couch to make me more comfortable.
My parents came to visit us at the end of May, which was so awesome! They got to come to my ultrasound and see baby! My mom found out the gender on that day and we will be doing a reveal towards the end of June. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to know. I still can’t believe I am almost halfway through this pregnancy, it really does fly by!

At this point, I am still only barely starting to show. However, it is so ironic because they say my baby is measuring big for right now which really surprises me!
I’ve purchased a pregnancy journal so that I can document this whole experience. I have also started on my baby registry. We have decided to register on Amazon just because it is so much easier on everyone, in terms of shipping and selection of products. Plus if you register on Amazon, they will send you a baby welcome kit of samples for different products and brands that you can try. I’ve been taking this time to consult with some of my family members who have newborns and babies, on what they would suggest me adding to the registry. That in itself has been super helpful in knowing brands to try, and some to stay away from. I have also started working on my hospital bag. I know sometimes babies like to make early appearances, so I want to have everything ready to go just in case. Once we find out the gender of the baby, I will really start on the nursery but I know for right now I am going to keep it mostly neutral in whites and grays.
It’s so exciting to think about the fact that our little bundle of joy will be here just in time for the holidays. We’re just so ready to meet this little blessing.
Some tips for expecting mama’s in the second trimester:
-Take pictures every week to document the growing belly!
-Find a prenatal vitamin that you like and take it every day. Here is the link to one that I am really loving. Plus it’s on Amazon for quick shipping!
-Start to gather ideas for the nursery as soon as you know the gender. It’s so much easier to have a head start and to do things slowly, rather than be rushed at the end!
-Purchase a pregnancy pillow ASAP. It has seriously changed the game for me when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep and comfort. There are several to choose from on Amazon. Here is the one I have.
-Keep your eye on maternity clothing. Once you get past about 20 weeks it’s unlikely that you’ll fit into your shorts and pants. I am sticking to lots of comfy dresses, since it’s the middle of summer. I’ll share maternity outfit inspo on my Instagram if you follow me there!
-Start thinking about your hospital bag! It’s so much better to be early and prepared. I’m working on a blog post with all of the details about what’s in mine!
