You wake up. Check your phone first thing. Start rushing around to get ready for work, school, or whatever other agenda you’ve got planned for the day that most likely revolves around someone else. You rush out the door, most likely skipping out on breakfast because you’re already running late. You rush and bustle throughout the day, barely taking the time to take a deep breath. You return home for the day, pop a quick frozen meal in the microwave and dedicate whatever time you have leftover to your kids, family, friends, homework, leftover work you didn’t get done that day, and the list goes on and on. You may have time for a quick hot shower, then you go to bed. Repeat.
Why is it so hard to make ourselves a priority?! I’m not just talking on a once in a while, special occasion, basis. I’m talking about every day! We live in such a fast paced society, that we’re constantly thinking about the next thing, or others. I think that especially as women, we tend to put ourselves last all too often.
I have tried to do a much better job of this since I started my own business. Working for yourself can come with pros and cons, but one of the things that has become so important to me is making myself a priority. Life is so, so short to be stressed all the time. Now, I take the time to set aside an hour to get my nails done once every other week. I also make it a priority to go to the gym at least 5 days out of the week. I realize that life happens, and sometimes it’s hard to schedule the time to do leisurely things, but please, do it for yourself.
I don’t have kids yet, so it might be a little easier for me to say – but I cannot imagine the stress that mothers go through. That’s why I feel it’s even more important to set aside some time just for yourself!
