“You did not choose me, but I chose you.”
-John 15:16
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to be chosen? If you’re anything like me, you remember those days in elementary school gym class just waiting to be “chosen” by the team captains for a kickball team. There’s just something special about being sought out and hand picked. It’s just like when you think about the amazing relationship we have with our Creator – the fact that He’s chosen YOU, and knew you before you were being put together in your mother’s womb has a way of taking your breath away when you truly think about it.
In September, I had the honor of partnering with WorldVision USA to be “Chosen”. The feeling of emotion that overcame me as I opened my envelope to see Indra holding my picture, is something that I cannot even describe – it’s something that I pray you will get to experience yourself by sponsoring a child.
Typically, the traditional way of sponsoring a child has meant clicking through a sea of photos and information to choose the child that you’d like to sponsor. With the “Chosen” campaign, World Vision took it a step further and completely flipped the roles of the sponsor and the child, letting THEM hand choose who they would be sponsored by. How cool is that?! These children don’t get to choose anything. What they eat on a daily basis, where they live, what they get to do and play with – nothing. This gave them an opportunity to have a choice!

On September 15, I had the honor of attending the big “reveal” weekend at Northside Christian Church in New Albany. It was such a joy to see these families opening their envelopes to reveal their child holding the photo of them! What an awesome thing to do as a family.

I got to hear from the church staff who had just a week before, been in Guatemala to witness first hand the “choosing” party that was put on for these families. It was an incredible experience. The WorldVision crew was also still set up at the church taking photos of new families for their experience.

It’s not too late to sign up to be “Chosen”. In fact, right now, globally, there are hundred and thousands of families that still need sponsors. I hope you’ll join me in this incredible experience to see what it feels like to be chosen by a child.
